Schedule, Rules and Regulations

READ CAREFULLY

ATTENTION: Drivers, coasters, and a responsible adult MUST be present at the start time for ALL runs! The responsible ADULT MUST remain with the driver and coaster throughout both practice sessions and must remain with the driver on the day of time trials, and race day until the coaster leaves the start line. NO EXCEPTIONS

RACE INFORMATION
 
Race Day

Wednesday, July 4th, 6 a.m-10 a.m- West Blvd.

Drivers coasters and responsible Adult are to be at the start no later than 6:00 am!

Course Route

Begins on upper Tombstone Canyon at West Blvd. under the overpass. The finish is at the office with coasters coming to a stop in the parking lot behind the Coffee Co.

Speeds in excess of 40 mph are possible.

Age Limits

Junior Division: 9 yrs - 12 yrs (as of July 4, 2018)

Senior Division: 13 yrs - 16 yrs (as of July 4,2018)

 

 Participation

ALL DRIVERS AND COASTERS must successfully complete the Warren Cutoff practice run in order to qualify for the Tombstone Canyon practice run. ALL DRIVERS AND COASTERS must then successfully complete the run down the Canyon to qualify for the race on July 4th. Drivers may NOT change coasters after qualifying at the Warren Cutoff practice run. A coaster can have only 1 DRIVER PER DIVISION.

Inspections

Each coaster will be fully inspected and tested for safety by race officials prior to EACH RUN. Construction, mechanical, weights, and tire pressure will be checked at EACH inspection. Equipment that is determined to be unsafe by the race officials discretion will not be allowed to run.

 

 
COASTER SPECIFICATIONS
Weights​

Junior division: 300 Lbs maximum (driver and coaster combined).

Senior division: 350 Lbs maximum (driver and coaster combined).

Weight distribution: 40% front, 60% rear (maximum deviation from 50/50).

All weights in the coaster must be secure, no loose weights. If weights are  added after weigh-in, coaster and driver must be re-weighed.

Dimensions​

Overall Width: 40 inches minimum , maximum 44 inches.

Overall Length: 96 inches maximum.

Wheels​ and Tires

Steel wheel barrel type rim with hub bore of 1 3/8" I.d. Max.

Tires: 4.80/4.00-8 load range B, tube type only

Max Tire Pressure: 15psi

Narrow hub width wheels are recommended to fit specs. Properly fitted precision bearings are allowed in the front wheels only. The rear wheels are to be bushed and locked to rear axle. Max (4) tires per coaster.

 

Steering and Suspension

Front steering, center pivot. 2:1 ratio- 2 pulleys (National #ACE 57492. 420 Lbs. rating or equivalent or better) must be securely mounted, one each side, to the front axle near the wheels. A single 3/16th minimum diameter stranded steering cable is required. There must be a positive stop for the axle limiting the steering to 20 degrees maximum in each direction. Steering wheels may be used in system.

Front Axle: Axle tube 1" SCH. 80 steel pipe recommend. Spindle/s: 5/8" minimum diameter solid steel" Grade 8 or better, bushed and welded to axle.

Rear Axle: 1" minimum diameter solid steel. Ends may be turned to 5/8" minimum diameter to accommodate wheel mounting. Brake rotor must be keyed and laterally secured to axle. Along with retaining nuts, the rear wheels must be keyed or securely pinned to axle. Axle must be secured laterally to coaster.

 

Brakes

Go-kart style "live" rear axle with single 6" minimum diameter disc brake. System may be hydraulic or mechanical (cable/rod). Brake pedal must be positioned for quick and full operation. A rigid foot rest is required.

 

 Body and Chassis

The body and chassis must be safely and properly attached to each other. The Body must cover the chassis structure and drivers body. Having the arms, shoulders, and helmet exposed is ok. Inspection panels for brakes, pedals, and steering adjustments are recommended.

ABSOLUTLEY NO OPEN COASTERS ALLOWED!

 

Cockpit

Properly mounted seat belts are required. Shoulder harnesses are recommended. Driver is required to be sitting on or in a feet forward position only. Padding shall be used where necessary to protect the driver. There shall be no sharp edges or protrusions in the cockpit. Properly adjusted rigid footrests are required.

 

Head and Face Protection

A properly fitting motorcycle type helmet is required. Should the helmet not have an attached face shield, valid shatterproof eye protection must be worn.

 

Numbers

Coasters numbers will be assigned at registration. There is a 2 digit limit. Numbers must be clearly displayed on both sides of the coaster and be a maximum of 6" high, black numbers on a white background. Returning coasters have first rights to the number on the coaster the prior year. Currently registered numbers may be re-assigned either by permission of the number holder, 2 years of inactivity, or retirement of the coaster.

 

RACE OFFICIALS, IN THEIR CAPACITY AS REPRESENTATIVES OF BISBEE COMMUNITY COASTER RACES, CAN NOT AND WILL NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS, CHANGES, OR ADJUSTMENTS DEEMED NECESSARY FOR THE SAFE OPERATION OF ANY COASTER. THE RESPONSIBILE ADULT THAT ACCOMPANIES THE DRIVER, OR THAT ADULT DESIIGNEE, IS RESPONSIBILE FOR ANY REQUIRED CHANGES TO A COASTER OR DRIVERS SAFETY EQUIPMENT. RACE OFFICIALS, CAN NOT AND WILL NOT SUPPLY HELMETS OR EYE PROTECTION TO ANY DRIVER. BE CERTAIN YOUR DRIVER HAS THE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT WITH THEM FOR EACH RUN. RACE OFFICIALS HAVE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY AS TO WHETHER ANY COASTER OR DRIVER IS PERMITTED TO COMPETE.
